Wellington Presbytery has a relationship with three Presbyterian Church Schools. These are,
Queen Margaret College for Girls, in Thorndon.
Passionate Learners, Resilient Women, Future Leaders
For 90 years they have been offering girls the opportunity to learn in a unique environment featuring:
- a professional and supportive staff
- a warm, caring and friendly atmosphere
- beautiful buildings and grounds
- tradition and traditional values blended with forward thinking.
At Queen Margaret College people come first. They encourage diversity, community and global awareness and academic, sporting and cultural achievement. Girls and staff together enjoy the challenge of learning.
They aim to give the girls the confidence, the skills and the wisdom to face the future. For more information visit their website.
Scots College for Boys, in Strathmore.
Virtutem paret doctrina - Let education make the all round man
Founded in 1916, Scots is a world class independent boys' school catering for day and weekly boarding students, both preparatory and secondary.
Our role is to ensure every student who leaves is well prepared for the future.
Although steeped in our proud tradition, Scots College is a modern learning institution, equipped with first-class facilities and leading-edge computer technology. They believe learning should be challenging and enjoyable, and they strive to maintain that balance to ensure our students confidently and successfully face the challenges of the future.
At Scots College it is important they ensure their students develop a strong self esteem and sense of responsibility to themselves and others.
St Oran's College for Girls, in Lower Hutt.
"St. Oran’s College is a year 7-13 Presbyterian girls’ college that educates its students by providing a wide range of opportunities that enable them to become responsible and valued members of society."
The College has established an enviable reputation for providing a first-class education, and developing mature, positive and well-balanced adults, who are achieving their full potential.
Because the college is committed to a small roll, the girls receive individual attention, and are known personally by most staff.
Emphasis is placed on assisting students to achieve their academic potential as well as developing a positive attitude, self-esteem and a desire for learning.
St Oran's College is a school based on sound Christian principles, which encourage excellence, tolerance, and enthusiasm.
There are five Kids Friendly churches in Wellington Presbytery. They are Wadestown, St John's in the City, St Andrew's on the Terrace, St Margaret's Silverstream, and Island Bay.
Kids Friendly is an initiative of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa
that recognises the vital contribution children and families make to healthy congregations and aims to equip churches to intentionally minister to children and families. The Kids Friendly Coach offers advice, training, coaching and “best practice” resources to all Presbyterian and Uniting churches.

Youth play a vital role in the Wellington Presbytery. They are not "disciples in waiting" but "disciples in training" and we see them as vital to the Presbytery's ongoing health. Many of our churches have youth groups staffed by volunteers.
We currently support and fund the Joint Youth Ministry Committee (JYMC). This committee was set up to assist youth leaders in the greater Wellington area. They do this by helping the youth leaders build healthy Christ centred youth ministries. They also provide opportunities for networking, training, resourcing and advocacy to all those working in youth ministry. And offer young people opportunities to grow in their faith.
For more information visit the JYMC website, at www.jymc.org.nz or contact Nga Larsen the Area Youth Coordinator for details about upcoming events and any queries you may have concerning youth in the Presbyterian churches in Wellington.
There are a wide range of mission activities carried out by the 31 churches and various connected ministries in Wellington Presbytery, such as Pancake breakfasts, Foodbanks, craft groups, Carols in the park, Mainly Music, playgroups, school services and events, youth activities and social justice initiatives. Each churches mission is unique to their geographical location and needs of their community.
Pioneer Mission Coordinator
Rev Sue Fenton was employed by Wellington Presbytery in a part-time role for a period of three years as Pioneer Mission Ministry Coordinator in November 2009. The purpose of the role is to provide leadership to a pilot project to resource the mission and community presence of congregations within the Presbytery of Wellington.
Sue works with ministers, church councils and congregations to explore and encourage new and effective forms of mission and worship as part of a pilot project in facilitating effective contemporary mission.
Since beginning in the role, Sue has started a Presbytery Mission Bookclub, which is open to anyone in Wellington Presbytery. Discussions are based around the current reading, and offer a place for further learning, reflection and sharing for those engaged in local mission.
She also helps organise the annual Presbytery resourcing day, and has initiated this website. Sue also produces a
Sue is currently working on developing some workshops which can be offered in 2010 to Parish Councils and Sessions to encourage and foster mission.
